Colombia legal currency is the peso
($). Every foreign currency transactions
shall take place in authorized exchange
houses or banks, never in the street.

Exchange rate fluctuation reference is the
U.S. dollar. Foreign currency exchange houses
are located in different sections of town,
for instance downtown at Jimenez Avenue,
around El Rosario square and International
Center, in most malls, on carrera 15 between
calles 90 and 95. In those places the visitor
will acquire or sell foreign currency, traveler
checks or send and collect international
drafts.
Official rate governing exchange rate calculation
will be subject to a service fee ranging
from 2 to 3%.
When leaving the hotel, the traveler shall
take in cash and local currency the approximate
amount to be spent in the course of the
day.
Currency denomination is $50, $100, $200
and $500 coins. $1.000, $2.000, $5.000,
$10.000, $20.000 and $ 50.000 bills.

Extensive automatic teller machines available
in the entire city. Services provided include
balance consultation, transfers, withdrawals
and cash advances 24 hours a day. As in
every other city, it is important to be
careful while using ATMs; do not allow strangers
to see or watch you entering the code numbers,
do not ask or accept help from people other
than entity employees, to not use damaged
ATMs. Some ATMs such as Visa, Cirrus and
Master Card, allow for any type of international
transactions. |

La mayoría de los establecimientos
grandes, restaurantes y supermercados, brindan
el servicio de tarjeta débito. De
igual manera aceptan tarjetas de crédito
internacionales.
Traveler
Checks
Only exclusive hotels accept traveler check
payment. Traveler checks may not be regularly
used in commercial establishments. |
