and publication center, specialized in
Andean and Bogotá Sabana flora.
Covers 19 hectares area including forests
planted with Andean species, some conifer
and oak trees, orchid nursery and rainy,
dry and warm climate plants nurseries.
A lake, cascade, laboratories, auditorium,
environmental aula and library complete
the facilities; provides guided visit
services, workshops programming and publications
sale. Houses fauna associated to water
bodies inherent to Simón Bolívar
Park frequented by migration birds such
as “buchipecosa” western fly-catcher
and bee cardinal.

First
interactive museum of Colombia and one
of the few of the kind in Latin America.
Covers nearly 20,000 m² construction,
10,000 of them 8 meters underground. Presents
over 200 exhibitions distributed in different
rooms inviting to play while learning
about topic such as life, biodiversity,
the city, the universe, technology and
the human being.
The tour may take four or more hours.
Of special interest the proportionally
reduced natural park housing Bogotá
Sabana native flora and fauna species.
Dome-cinema projection is a fascinating
experience: spherical screen, 70 mm format
and sound system used enhance the presentation.
The complex has a child zone, conference
rooms, square, restaurant, Internet Café
and scientific devices shop.

Bogotá
Planetarium has a cupola and projection
system reproducing celestial phenomenon
by electric, optical and mechanical means.
The cupola 25 meters in diameter is the
largest of Latin America, and seats 482
people. Operates use a Zeiss Model UPP-23
projector but the District Culture and
Tourism Institute is considering installing
a modern projector by 2004.
Main District Planetarium activities:
Celestial dome projections, laser projections,
telescope observation journeys, astronomy
workshops and conferences on different
topics associated to astronomy. Also forming
part of this architectural complex is
Santa Fe Gallery for nearly thirty years
dedicated to promote national artistic
values, and Oriol Rangel Room promoting
culture and arts. Astronomy objects, books
and CD-Rom shop may be visited, also the
cafeteria located in the exterior first
floor hall facing Independence Park.
