Major Capital District ecological structure if
formed by protected areas, green stones, special
management areas and urban parks. Protected areas
are spaces dedicated to fauna, flora and native
landscape protection and restoration. Located
in the surrounding mountain range. Among many
other eastern hills, forest reserves and humid
areas form part of the system.
Green zones are free access and circulation public
spaces. They form part of street corridors and
tree planted public spaces.
Special management areas associated to Bogotá
river alluvial valley management include rivers,
creeks and channels.
Urban parks are areas destined to citizens’
recreation. District Parks System classifies parks
by surface and services coverage, scaling them
from regional to neighborhood levels. Parks provide
excellent active or passive Bogotá inhabitants’
recreational possibilities including outdoor shows.

Consisting of district parks and green public
spaces for collective use. They form urban parks
systems dedicated to active or passive recreation.
In the first place those offering exercise and
games, artistic or sports disciplines practice
facilities; the second refers to rest in harmony
with nature.
Total System includes over one thousand parks
of the regional, metropolitan, zonal, neighborhood
and pocket parks type, the last characterized
by less than one thousand meter surface and
exclusive dedication to passive or contemplative
recreation. The system includes important parks
such as Simón Bolívar, with the
largest combined attractions and facilities
offer of its kind in Colombia (sites of interest
to tourists, recreation, cultural, sports, pedagogic
and environmental park), or El Tunal Park, the
most important to the southeast of the city
benefiting over 20 localities and more than
2,600,000 people.
Ecologic District Parks: High
scenic and/or biological value areas destined
to flora, fauna and territory preservation,
restoration and sustainable use; to environmental
education and to passive recreation. Include
twelve humid areas and five highly valuable
environmental areas located in the hills around
the Capital District.
