The museum exhibits Colombian soils characteristics,
use potential or restrictions. Divided
into five territories or regions (Pacific,
Andean and Inter-Andean, Amazonian, Orinoquian,
Caribbean and Insular), which climate,
vegetation, geologic materials and relieves
characteristics differ to show soil monoliths,
graphs, tables and photographs giving
an idea of the ecological, social and
economic environment.
This museum emerges due to a group of
dedicated adaphologists, who in 1973 collected
Gaviotas Vichada region soil profiles.
From 1979, collection and exhibition room
has ongoing preparation programs. Under
agreement with the International Holland
Soils Reference and Information International
Center basic assistance and training was
obtained to conduct the work.
