First named San Carlos Square, framed
by large colonial houses, mostly from the XVII century. The house in the
back was property of French physician Rieux, Antonio Nariño’s
friend and confidant. In the lower portion of the house Nariño installed
his Patriotic Print, which printed the Rights of Men and the Citizen.
The square is a lovely intimate garden planted with tropical species and
centenary palm trees and in the center, philologist Rufino José Cuervo
statue, and the work of sculptor Raúl Carlos Verlett. The house on
the east corner was property of Manuelita Sáenz, faithful companion
of Liberator Simón Bolívar and currently Regional Apparel
of Colombia Museum.
