Initially home late in the
XVI century, then seminar under Jesuit’s direction, who ran it up
to their expulsion. In 1774 the Royal Library of Santa Fe was founded and
declared public in 1777. In 1783 part of the building was destined to Ancillary
Battalion Quarters. Subsequently sold to Don Juan Manuel Arrubla, who greatly
improved the house and sold it again to the Government in 1828 for Presidential
Palace destination; In July that year Liberator Simon Bolivar inaugurated
the house, three months before September conspiracy. From 1980, San Carlos
Palace is no longer president of Colombia residence but Ministry of Foreign
Relations offices.
