Land used to build this
four house set belonged Santa Clara Convent. Gabriel Echeverry promoted
the work and was responsible for homes building to lodge each of his children,
and so it was during initial years, subsequently owned by several people
for different uses. Design gives the impression of one three floor architectural
unit.
The set scheme is symmetric and formed by two couple of homes inverted on
the central axle; the two external houses are identical (volume identified
by a corner dome), same as the two central homes, which have a prominent
mansard over the entrance arch. Space layout is similar in all cases following
the pattern used at the time: a large room on main floor façade,
rooms along the corridor, dining room closing the main patio and service
quarters in the back.
Outside set appearance is quite intricate: doors and windows enhanced by
stonework on jambs and lintels. Iron rails contribute ornamental elements
to a quite harmonic assembly. Interior ornamentation is equally rich, particularly
each house hall and main stairs. Currently Ministry of the Interior offices.
