| Candelaria Corporation acquired
the home June 20, 1983. Ninety years after poet José Asuncion Silva
suicide, the home was inaugurated as Silva Poetry Home on May 24, 1986,
to perform both library and phonotheca functions. Original home structure is colonial of the XVII century, and that is the reason for original roof tiles and for widow rails and locks. In 1880 the house was restored following French influence: profuse plaster ornamentation translated in to sumptuous summits crowning doors and large patio roses intertwining mother of pearl shells, dolphins and triton tridents Original wall colors in each room prevail: cobalt blue and light green shade. Tinted glass adorned hand made folding screens preserve republican looks. |
