First gold coins made in
America were minted in that house, a process initiated in 1621, and subsequently
in 1987, transferred to Ibagué. Declared National Monument in 1975,
the house is now property of Banco de la República and houses numismatic
collection and Botero Museum.
Founded by order of King Phillip the II and expanded to meet production
needs by mid XVII century by king Ferdinand the VII. Current house is the
same Solis Viceroy home inaugurated in 1756 after the expansion evidenced
by the stone molding.
